Free, Good, Reliable. What more do you want? November 16, 2008

Free Open source software is something that is much debated for some long time. It is high time that people understand their needs and choose to use good, reliable software that is available for free.  Free software does not mean that source is open. But in most cases indeed the source is open and available for modification based on specific licensing of the software. At the end of the day all you need is to get a job done. For example being a graduate student in computer science you might need to submit a project report or upload a soft copy of an assignment as a PDF. Open Office Writer does this job for free and all tools you need to do that are present in there. Infact you might have more functions which you will seldom use. Do you really want to pay for around 40-50$ for a commercial software that does this same job when you can do this free? Think. Its your choice. Its free, reliable, and does the job you need.
By the way Open Office is available for free download from http://www.openoffice.org
